Are YOU Well Heeled?

It's one of my favourite times again - Shlog time, as I get to talk about what make Milly J's Shoe Designs tick!

So once again... welcome.

It is important to mention firstly that Milly J has updated one of the most believed policies to the business:

Milly J never compromises class, execution, detail, playfulness and quality for a cheap price that may sell quickly. Milly J's Shoes believes in living the art through unanticipated creativity.

It is so important to believe in the value of your product, especially if you sell and make it yourself. When looking through other arts shops and boutiques, you often notice the amount of competition means that people are vying for the spotlight through sales. This is often created by low pricing. However, pricing is so important. Milly J's stock is always well presented, executed, created and packaged, and so my price must refelct my market and beliefs.

If you don't price correctly, you wont reach your target market and therefore resulting in less sales.

Just chill, take a deep breath and think about your pricing properly to ho it reflects your personal factors.

Oh, before I forget... have you viewed the wonderful new shoes? As promised, I am going to tell you a little about them.

The Quills Edition

This shoe was my first attempt at using the art of quilling for sculptural purposes. Often quilling is used as a flat surface, as a picture. Though I knew that there were so many opportunities to create something that was fragile in the sense of paper strips though robust in its formation. I wanted to enfuse paper with glass and fabric, to give a sense of the elements. From water to wood to earth. So please enjoy this sculpture with a sense of fun and perhaps see paper in another light.

The Liquorice of Sorts Edition

I take great enjoyment in creating all my designs. Though this sculpture was so much fun, as it took me swiftly back to my childhood. Snacking on Liquorice Allsorts whilst visiting my Grandma's.

I was thrilled to create handmade clay sweets that I would topple precariously on top of each other.

One of my oldest friends whom I went to boarding school with relished herself in these fun sweets. In our dormitory she would sit on her bed and hold onto every last one as if I was eyeing them up. She later told me that when she was at Uni, she was dieting and knew she had to have a certain number of colories. She knew exactly how many calories where in each allsort. So what did she do? You guessed it.

So this shoe has been dedictaed to my kooky friend Haley!

Hello again Milly J's Shoe readers!

In this post we will be covering the importance of branding. Though I will not be preaching to you about the ins and outs and what is a necessity, as this is very personal from business to business.

Have you ever walked in to a boutique and really not known what was going on? Perhaps you felt a deep sense of disconnectedness or indifference, or maybe you couldn't put your finger on the lack of pulse. Or perhaps it was even down to the people hired.

When forming a business, I am not the most conventional. Though, I believe that this works to my favor... as my brand isn't conventional. However, branding is extremely important. If you know yourself, your goals, your achievements and your likes and dislikes, it does become a lot easier. It's really not as daunting as one may think.

Perhaps write down a list of things that makes you feel great, that remind you of your business, draw pictures, tell stories, write down big details and minute details, listen to music that sums up your business. Jot down as much as you can and make a scrap book of ideas.
A book helps, as it means that you can flip through your ideas with a sense of achievement.

Always review your brand and if you have a clear business model set out, review the brand to this. Don't become stuck with ideas, as your business must move with you and your times ad environments.

In order to make people look at your business and go,

Where your brand may come through:

The font that you use

The way that you market and advertise yourself

The colours and hues you use

The shapes you use

The psychology behind your ideas and visions

The people you choose to work with (though when starting out, be careful of this, don't be too fussy)

Your design structure from your website to your actual products

The way you present yourself when dealing with your business

The presence you have within the community (is your brand elusive or personable)?

The services you offer and how you offer them

There are so many more ways to utilise and develop your brand. These are just a few. But Milly J believes that if you know your brand, so will your customers and clients. Therefore, try not to get too many outside people to create the brand for you. As you know the vision better than they do. Though if you do choose to hire external help, communicate your ideas and visions effectively. Don't have people walking around with large question marks over their heads, or particularly over your products! Make sure your branding is tidy and consistent. If something tends to jump out at you and causes you to wince whilst reviewing the brand, chances are there is a problem with that particular area.
